From nearly three months TV channels TV9 and ABN are banned by the MSOs from Telangana and they are not airing the channels. MSOs did not lifted their ban on the channels even after several requests from the Court and Central & State Ministers.
Few days back, Congress MP Renuka Chowdary brought this issue in the Rajya Sabha and severely condemned the Telangana government for not taking any action on MSOs for showing the discrimination against both the channels. Yesterday, TDP MP Sujana Chowdary also raised this in Rajya sabha and said banning the channels is killing the spirit of democracy. He requested Rajya Sabha and the Central government to protect the freedom of press.
After the upper house session, Central government started its action on imposing the ban by the operators. Central Minister Prakash Javadekar had a meeting with the MSOs and ordered them to lift the ban immediately. After the meeting, representative of the MSOs said that the minister made it clear that if the ban is not lifted by Monday, all the Telangana MSOs licence will be canceled.
