Jayalalithaa’s trusted aide Panneerselvam is all set to become the new chief minister of Tamilnadu. The decision was taken at AIADMK office on Sunday, a day after Jayalalithaa received a four year jail term in disproportionate assets case from a Bangalore court.
63 year old Panneerselvam was unanimously elected as the leader of AIADMK Legislature party. The leaders are to meet Governor Rosaiah today and the swearing in is likely to be held today. His selection took place after consultations with Jayalalithaa.
Panneerselvam belong to the dominant Mudukulathor community and once ran a tea stall. The events signaled a repeat of 2001. Jayalalithaa is to move the Karnataka High Court on Monday for bail and stay on conviction.
